2018 in pictures…

This year has been the most random yet - with as varied a selection of photography assignments as I can remember. In this post, I’ll be selecting a few of my favourite jobs and images from a packed 2018.

The year started with a trip up to my old stomping ground, Glasgow, to photograph some gigs at Celtic Connections. I was working with an array of incredible musicians in some of the city’s most iconic venues - namely Skerryvore with We Banjo 3 at the Barrowlands, the Peatbog Faeries & Vieux Farka Touré at the Old Fruitmarket, and Chris Stout & Catriona McKay with Fiddler’s Bid and Frigg at the Royal Concert Hall.

There’s been plenty food and drink to photograph this year, at The Clarence, Automatic, Red’s True Barbecue, Frizzenti, Manchester Art Gallery and for the Real Junk Food Project. My routine for editing food images is to make sure I start with a full stomach. If I’m editing and the images are still making me feel hungry, then I know I’m on the right track!

This was a nice little portrait job for XS Manchester, photographing the likes of Mike Joyce and Clint Boon at the radio station headquarters in Spinningfields. I also photographed Mike and Clint in conversation at Salford Lads Club recently…

Plenty of events this year - here are a few, including Manchester Podcast Festival, Manchester Animation Festival, Manchester Day Parade and King Street Festival.

A few gigs this year too, including a trip to Latitude Festival, and some gigs at various venues in Greater Manchester including The Met, Albert Hall, O2 Academy, The Ritz, Castlefield Bowl and O2 Apollo.

A large part of the summer has been focussed around a piece of outdoor theatre I’m producing called “The Lost Words: Seek Find Speak - you can read more about it here, and view some of the galleries here.

Lastly, often I’ll work on a project which is so rich and full of exciting images that I find it virtually impossible to narrow it down for the website. In these cases, I’ll add a full gallery to a page I call “Chronicles”. The latest addition to this page is a gallery from Co:Lab theatre festival at the Royal Exchange.

So, there you have it - a snapshot of 2018 so far.

Looking forward to the next four months!
